Bone broth can be used in myriad recipes. Why not make it homemade?! It is as simple as adding ingredients, cook, and store. Bone broth provides collagen and is healing for the gut. Boost your skin and gastrointestinal health with this easy recipe!

Supplies

- Crockpot

- Colander

- Storage container(s)

Ingredients

- Chicken bones (save after making our healthy roasted chicken recipe)

- ½ bulb garlic

- 3 carrots (or saved carrot peels/scraps)

- 1 halved onion

- Enough water to cover the ingredients

- 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar

Directions

  1. Cut garlic bulb in half along its horizontal axis (save the bottom half to roast in the oven for caramelized garlic). Using the side of your knife with the sharp edge pointed away from you, push down on the garlic cloves so they are semi-crushed.
  2. Put garlic, carrots, and onion in the crock pot
  3. Add the chicken bones
  4. Add water to cover the ingredients (if the chicken bones are frozen, use warm water to allow the bones to fit appropriately into the crock pot)
  5. Add the vinegar
  6. Set the crock pot to low and cook for 24 hours
  7. After time is up, turn off the crock pot and strain the broth into storage containers.
  8. Be cautious, as the broth will be very hot. Glass storage containers are highly recommended.
  9. Put in the fridge and use for up to 7 days or freeze and use as needed.
