The best thing about this basic recipe is that you can swap ingredients and add mix-ins to create numerous delicious versions. This golden energy ball recipe is inspired by Indian healing spice flavors. Filled with the goodness of turmeric and warm spices like cloves, black pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg, these are the perfect pick-me-up treats for healthy snacking.

 

Snack balls fill up the nutrient gap resulting from a hurriedly put together meal. As they store well in the fridge, make a big batch and enjoy this guilt-free snack whenever you hunger strikes.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (120g) almond/peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp (15g) pumpkin seeds, finely ground
  • ½-1 tsp (5-3g) turmeric
  • 1-2 tbsp (21.2-42.4g) date syrup/honey
  • 2 tsp (26g) protein powder (optional)
  • ⅓cup (123g) coconut/almond flour
  • 1 tsp (2.6g) spice mix

For spice mix:

  • 2-3 cloves
  • ¼ inch cinnamon bark
  • 2-3 black pepper seeds (optional)
  • Pinch of nutmeg

 

Directions:

  1. Grind the pumpkin seeds with the spice mix ingredients into a fine powder.
  2. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Mix well to combine, until a thick dough forms.
  3. Divide the dough into 8-10 equal parts and roll into balls.
  4. Refrigerate the balls for 10-15minutes to firm up.
  5. Roll energy balls in desiccated coconut, seeds, or finely chopped nuts, if desired
  6. Store at room temperature for a day and in an airtight container in the fridge for a week.
